Hallmarking Information

An assay hallmark is a quality control mark stamped on precious metal Gold, Silver or Platinum articles. Hallmarking precious metals in the UK has been in use as a form of consumer protection for 700 years. This mark guarantees the item has been independantly tested and conforms to legal standards of purity. Testing and hallmarking can only be carried out by an Assay Office. There are four Assay Offices in the UK located in London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Edinburgh.

The hallmark comprises of a minimum of three symbols :
Sponsor or Makers Mark - Consists of at least two letters within a shield, unique to the maker or sponsor.
Metal Purity Mark (fineness) - Indicates the precious metal content of the article in parts per thousand.
Assay Office Mark - Shows the particular Assay Office at which the article was tested and marked.

All our jewellery will be supplied as described and meet all legal UK assay hallmarking requirements.
Most of our Gold jewellery is either 9 carat or 18 carat and all our Silver is Sterling.
Carat vs. Fineness Marks : 9ct Gold = 375 18ct Gold = 750 Sterling Silver = 925
Exemptions from hallmarking :
Gold under 1 gram , Silver under 7.78 grams , Platinum under 0.5 gram
